Big 5 safari

When you think of a classic African safari, there is no place that comes to mind quite like the plains of Kenya and Tanzania. From the great grass plains of the Masai Mara to the heart of the Great Rift Valley, offering one of the worlds most famous wildlife phenomenons – The great migration of wildebeest (Gnu) as they thunder across the Talek, Sand and Mara Rivers.
From the snow capped peaks of Kilimanjaro, to the shores of the tropical Indian ocean, Kenya is a destination not to be missed.
Our all-inclusive safari through Kenya & Tanzania shows all of what the area has to offer.

Wildebeest migration safari

Kenya plays host to an almost unrivalled array of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The famous wildebeest herds of the Maasai Mara are just a single example of the diverse, spectacular sights and encounters that visitors to Kenya may experience.
Kenya’s great lakes formed along the Great Rift Valley attract wildlife from far and wide, like the famed flocks of thousands of flamingo’s amongst the abundance of other wildlife marching through the reserves here.

Footsteps Tours runs scheduled departures during the peak migration season, giving us the best possible chance to witness this incredible phenomenon.

Climate:

Kenya has a tropical climate, but its diverse topography results in regional variations in temperatures. In the highlands, temperatures range between 10 and 20 °C (50 and 68 °F) during cold and hot seasons respectively. The rest of the country has temperatures rarely falling lower than 20 °C and soaring as high as 38 °C.

Seasons:

Tanzania has 2 major migration seasons each year.

January – February: Migration season, when the Wildebeest (Gnu) migrate across the Mara, Sand and Talek rivers, following the rains to greener vegetation

July – September: Migration season, when the Wildebeest (Gnu) migrate across the Mara, Sand and Talek rivers, following the rains to greener vegetation
